The Associations sections are listed below. As a member of any section of the Arkansas Bar Association, you gain access to a vibrant section community. This community includes:

Sections and CLE

Sections are encouraged to take an active role in organizing and presenting CLE programs as part of their contribution to professional development. Presenting a CLE is an excellent opportunity for sections to showcase their expertise, engage with members, and fulfill their educational responsibilities. We understand that your time is valuable, so we want to let you know upfront that planning a CLE program may require approximately 25-30 hours of preparation time.  Please be sure to review the critical deadlines for CLE planning below, listed below.

  • For CLEs scheduled in the spring (January – March), proposals must be submitted by August 1st.
  • For CLEs in the fall (September – November), proposals must be submitted by March 1st.
Critical Deadlines:
  • 20 - 30 weeks prior to CLE - Start meeting with ArkBar CLE staff to discuss possible topics and speakers 
  • 8 weeks prior to CLE - Final agenda must be submitted to Lisa McCormick, this includes presentation titles and speakers
  • 8 - 7 weeks prior to CLE - Summit final agenda for CLE credit
  • 8 - 6 weeks prior to CLE - Online registration opens 
  • 4 - 3 weeks prior to CLE – Sponsorship commitment deadline to ensure proper advertising and promotion.
  • 3 weeks prior to CLE - Course materials, bio, AV request and speaker releases due for all speakers. 
  • 1 week prior to CLE - Power point presentations due 
Administrative Law

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association within the field of administrative law, including all related federal and state laws. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this field of law.

Agricultural Law

The Section shall promote the objective of the Association within the field of agricultural law, including all related federal and state laws. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this field of law.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

The purpose of this Section shall be to promote the objectives of the Association within the particular field of alternative dispute resolution, and to do any and all matters to inform and promote a better understanding among attorneys engaged in this field.

Appellate Law

The Appellate law section involves those who practice in the areas of civil or criminal appeals. The section will advance the appellate practice by connecting these practitioners to provide discussion and education on topics such as governing rules and case law, together with practical advice.

Business Law

The purposes of this Section shall be to promote the purposes and objects of the Association in all facets of Business Law and provide an organization within the Association open to members in good standing who have a common interest in corporation, partnership, franchise, transaction, and other related areas of Business Law, including (a) the laws governing business and organizations, such as profit and non-profit corporations, general and limited partnerships, limited liability companies, and other business entities created or authorized by law and the obligations, liabilities, and responsibilities of their officers, directors, shareholders, partners, and/or members, (b) current trends and information on the structuring of large and small business transactions; (c) laws governing business acquisitions, mergers, asset sales, and other composition and disposition transactions; (d) franchise laws and practices; (e) business opinion letters; (f) real estate laws, to the extent they affect and impact business transactions and in coordination with other sections of the Association also having jurisdiction over real estate laws; and (g) creating programs, including an annual seminar, to assist general practitioners in general business law. To that end the proposed Section also will actively promote the dissemination of information concerning these areas of law to Section members through seminars, coordination with the Business Section of the American Bar Association, coordination with other Sections and committees of the Arkansas Bar Association, and monitoring new laws and proposed laws. The proposed Section will also affirmatively promote communication among attorneys practicing business law.

Civil Litigation

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association within the field of civil litigation, including all related federal and state laws. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this field of law.

Civil Rights Law

The Civil Rights Section shall promote the objects of the Association including all related federal and state laws. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys who practice or are interested in the area of civil rights law.

Construction Law

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association within the field of construction law, including all related federal and state laws. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this field of law.

Corporate & In-House Counsel

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association and serve the needs of attorneys who focus their practice on a single or small group of corporate clients, or who serve as in-house counsel for a corporation or business entity. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this area of practice.

Criminal Law

The purpose of this Section shall be to promote the objectives of the Association within the particular field of Criminal Law and to do and all matters to inform and promote a better understanding among attorneys engaged in this field of law.

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association within the field of debtor/creditor law including all related federal and state laws. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this field of law.

Disability Law

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association within the field of Disability Law, including Social Security Law and including all related federal and state law. Environmental Law

Family Law

The purpose of this Section shall be to promote the objects of the Arkansas Bar Association by improving the administration of justice in the field of family law, by study, conferences, publication of reports and articles with respect to both legislation and administration in all matters connected therewith.

Financial Institutions

The purpose of this section shall be to provide a means for a closer association among lawyers representing financial institutions; to promote the consideration, research and solution of legal problems and advocate reforms in the law; and to endeavor to keep its members informed of current legal developments, all as they affect financial institutions.

Government Practice

The purpose of this Section shall be to promote the objects of the Association within the particular field of Public Law, through its practitioners, both in public and private practice, and to that end to promote professionalism, further excellence, and create a better understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in these fields of law.

Health Law

Hispanic Lawyers

The Section shall promote the objectives of the Association as well as professionalism, excellence, understanding and cooperation among attorneys engaged in dealing with legal issues surrounding the Hispanic culture and communities.

Intellectual Property & Technology

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association within the particular field of intellectual property, including all related federal and state laws. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this field of law.

The Section shall promote the awareness and understanding of international law within the Association and the public at large. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this field of law.

Juvenile Justice & Child Welfare

The purpose of this Section shall be to promote the objects of the Association within the particular field of Juvenile Law (areas of the law which effect juveniles), through its practitioners, both in public and private practice, and to that end to promote professionalism, further excellence, and create a better understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this field of law.

Labor & Employment

The purpose of this Section shall be to promote the objects of the Association within the particular field of Labor Relations Law, including civil rights laws and all other laws affecting the employer-employee relationship, and to that end to promote professionalism, further excellence, and create a better understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in these fields of law.

Leadership Academy Alumni

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association including all related federal and state laws. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys who are alumni of the Leadership Academy program of the Arkansas Bar Association.

Natural Resources Law

The purpose of this Section shall be to promote the objects of the Arkansas Bar Association within the particular field designated by the name of the Section and to that end to create a better understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in the practice involving mineral law.

Probate & Trust Law

The purposes of this Section are to promote the interest and knowledge of members of the Arkansas Bar Association (hereafter "Association") in the field of probate law, to conduct educational programs dealing with various aspects of probate practice, to disseminate information on current developments in such field through publication of a newsletter, to maintain liaison with the section of Taxation, Trust and Estate Planning of the Association as to matters of common interest, to periodically up-date the Arkansas Probate System and other publications of the Association related to probate administration, to assist in the drafting of proposed legislation within the jurisdiction of the Section, and to provide members the opportunity to participate in each of these activities.

Real Estate Law

The purposes of this Section are to promote the interest and knowledge of members of the Arkansas Bar Association (hereafter "Association") in the field of real estate law, to conduct educational programs dealing with various aspects of real estate practice, to disseminate information on current developments in such fields, through publication of a newsletter and otherwise; to maintain liaison with the Attorneys' Title Guarantee Fund, Inc. of Arkansas and similar entities as to matters of common interest; to publish and periodically update the Arkansas Real Estate Law and Practice System, or similar systems, and publications setting forth or explaining standards for real estate title examinations in Arkansas; to assist in the drafting of proposed legislation within the jurisdiction of the Section; and to provide members the opportunity to participate in each of these activities.

Section of Taxation

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association and the interests and knowledge of members of the Association in the field of federal and state taxation, and shall promote professionalism, excellence, understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in the practice of tax law.

Securities Law

The Section shall promote the objects of the Association within the field of securities, including all related federal and state laws. It pledges to promote professionalism, excellence, and understanding and cooperation among those attorneys engaged in this field of law.

Solo, Small Firm & Practice Management

The purposes of this Section are to promote the interest, knowledge, and network of members of the Arkansas Bar Association (hereafter "Association") in solo or small law firm practice conducting educational programs dealing with various aspects of a general practice of law for solo and small firms by disseminating information on current developments and trends specific to solos and small firms through publication of a newsletter and otherwise; by assisting in the drafting of proposed legislation within the jurisdiction of the Section; and by providing members the opportunity to participate in each of these activities.
